Amateur astronomers love to share their telescopes, and enthusiasm and knowledge of astronomy with the public. Spend an evening with us and learn about your place in the universe.  The event will start at dusk, about 7:00 pm, and run to 10:30 pm or so, weather permitting. As always, our events are free to the public.

See a giant Jupiter and its 4 Galilean moons, double stars, galaxies and other astronomical delights at a star party hosted by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society at SPOC.  SPOC is one of the finest amateur facilities in the country opened to the public. The Observatory houses three large telescopes, the largest being a 32 inch reflecting telescope. It has a 32 inch diameter mirror and is, optically, more than 25 feet long.

The Salt Lake Astronomical Society continues its public outreach program by providing free star parties. Members of the society bring a variety of some of the finest telescopes in the state and make them available, free of charge, to the public. Parking is also free.

All star party events are weather permitting. Telescopes are not set up if there is rain or it’s mostly cloudy.
